Journal Entry - Fire-bellied Toad
Materials
Journal Procedures
- blank journal (with or without lines; some people like journals with lines to help keep text even; others like it without the lines so they don't interrupt their drawings)
- pencil and or pen
- any or all of the following: coloring media such as crayons, colored pencils, markers and paint
Journal Procedures
- Go to Wikipedia's article on the fire-bellied toad here. You may also want to make more searches for different species of fire-bellied toads to find out more information about them.
- Read through the article. Scroll down to species and look through the list. Tip: All of the names in blue have information and many of them have photos. Some of them have only a little information without photographs.
- Think about what you've read and consider how you would like to journal about at least one species per entry in your journal. Try to keep one species per entry as this allows you to really get to know the animal and be more thoroughly focused with your species research.
- Make a sketch from any of the pictures of the fire-bellied toads in your journal. Color them in their life-like colors.
- Add interesting facts about the frog to your journal page. Include at least these basics: a). Name of the type of fire-bellied toad b). What does it eat? c). Where does it live (consider including a hand-drawn map of it's region), d). What are its enemies, e). Where does it sleep? f). Where does it go when too hot or too cold? g). Any other interesting facts you want to include about the species.
- Decorate your page with drawings of their eggs, babies, habitat vegetation and more! Have fun!
- Take photos of your journal page and upload them onto a blog to share with your class and or the world! If you photograph your journal pages, be sure to get good, clear closeups so people can read your text.
